For those of you that have not been following along with part one and two, we are featuring some of the riders that are participating in the Mrs. Miles Valentine side-saddle race at the Cheshire Point to Point.
A vintage photograph of the namesake of the Mrs. Miles Valentine Memorial ladies sidesaddle race
This promises to be a wonderful display of tradition, elegance and bravery run in honor of Mrs. Miles Valentine, who graced many hunt fields with her style and unmatched horsemanship. This year’s “Lady Dianas” will impress race fans by negotiating 2 miles of brush, timber, and coops typical of inviting hunt country.
We would like to introduce everyone to another one of the brave Jockeys- Maureen Britell
Maureen aboard her handsome gelding Tango
So, Maureen, inquiring minds want to know…….
How old are you?
I’m holding at 26 (it was a good year)
Who are you riding?
Tango is a 16.1 hand, bay, eight-year-old TB gelding (Connecting Flight X Banker’s Gold)
Where are you coming from?
Middleburg, VA
How long have you been riding sidesaddle?
I saw someone hunt Side Saddle about ten years ago, and took my first lesson the next week–now it’s the only way I hunt!
What do you do besides ride?
I have 1 husband, 2 horses, 3 dogs, and 4 children….so between work, the family and riding…I don’t do too much more. Except I do run 8 miles a day–but, that’s because it’s cheaper than psychotherapy!
