A SIDEWAYS GLANCE AT THE PADDOCK PART II

March 18, 2016 by Sissi

By the end of next week, we will know a little something about most of the jockeys racing in the Cheshire Point to Point Side saddle race and they are all very interesting.  Let’s be honest anyone bold enough to do this sideways is pretty impressive.

We would like to introduce you to another brave Jockey-Christina Mulqueen

So, Christina, inquiring minds want to know…..

How old are you?

I’m 46 years young!

Who are you riding?

I will be riding a Belgian Warmblood mare named Waffles, who is in her first year of hunting, as well as her first year aside. She loves it all, and has just the head for it all-bravery, elegance, and attitude!!

Where are you coming from?

I’m coming from Southern Maryland.

How long have you been riding and when did you start riding sideways?

I started riding at age 6 there were two sideways ladies in our hunt club, and I grew up thinking that they were the Most elegant creatures!!! Many years later, a dear friend allowed me to try hers  and I was Instantly addicted.
Are you a Foxhunter?  If you are how long have you been hunting and who do you hunt with?
I started hunting at age 7 with De la Brooke Foxhounds (where I am Still a member).
What do you love about sidesaddle?
Although the outfits are fun, the biggest reason I love being sideways (besides the matching sideways personality!) is the unexpected connection with the horse. It seems as though a lady just sort of perches up there, but amazingly the horses really seem to be comfortable, and I find that I have more communication through my whole right leg feeling the horses’ back rather than through just my seat bones. Don’t know if I explained that well enough at all!!! The other utterly amazing aspect of sidesaddle is the instant friendships that occur between fellow aside ladies, all over the world. It opens up an entire new genre of friends!
What part of the weekend are you looking forward to most?
We are looking forward to new friends, new experiences, and new adventures!!!
Christina is also graciously lending two more of her mounts to two of the other ladies riding in this race!
Chasing a Fox wishes Christina and Waffles, good luck on race day!
